Stack To Date is currently completely free to use for all features. We built this tool because we needed it ourselves, and we're happy to share it with the community.

Our Philosophy: Sustainable Open Source

We believe in building sustainable tools that serve the developer community. To keep Stack To Date running and improving, we're planning a pricing model that:

  • Keeps all current features free forever
  • Covers our infrastructure costs (~$10/year suggested contribution)
  • Gives back to the open source projects we depend on
  • Remains accessible to individual developers and small teams

Giving Back to Open Source

A portion of any paid subscriptions will go directly to supporting the open source projects that make Stack To Date possible:

  • endoflife.date – Our primary data source for product lifecycle information
  • Other dependencies – The many open source libraries that power this application (Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, and more)

We're committed to contributing back to the ecosystem that enables us to build useful tools.

Looking Ahead

We're exploring additional options based on community interest:

  • On-Premise Version: Self-hosted deployment for enterprise teams with strict security requirements
  • Open Source Option: Potential for fully open-sourcing the platform if there's enough community support

Why We're Being Transparent

We believe in honest, upfront communication about costs and sustainability. Server infrastructure, data synchronization, and ongoing development all have real costs. Rather than surprising users with paywalls later, we're sharing our plans early.

Our goal is simple: build a sustainable service that helps developers manage their tech stacks without breaking the bank.
